Karur Stampede Case: TVK Chief Vijay Summoned By CBI Again On Jan 19

New Delhi: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay has reportedly been summoned by the CBI again on 19 January for questioning in the Karur stampede case. The Karur stampede killed 41 people and left more than 60 injured.

Vijay had reportedly requested a fresh date, citing the Pongal festival, which the agency has agreed to. On Monday, Vijay was questioned for nearly six hours at the heavily barricaded CBI headquarters in Delhi. He arrived in a black Range Rover, accompanied by colleagues from his party, including Aadhav Arjuna.

After completing formalities, he was taken to the anti-corruption unit handling the case, where officials questioned him about his role in the rally during which the tragic stampede occurred. He left the CBI premises at around 6:15 pm.

The probe agency has also questioned several TVK office bearers and Tamil Nadu’s former ADG (law and order), S Davidson Devasirvatham, in connection with the case.

The CBI took over the probe from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a Supreme Court order in October 2025. The court had asked the CBI Director to appoint a senior officer to lead the investigation and to set up a three-member supervisory committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, to monitor the probe.

Vijay on Monday told CBI officers that neither his party nor its functionaries were responsible for the deadly Karur stampede, according to an India Today report.
