Karnataka: Humiliated farmer brings Rs 10 lakh within an hour after being turned away by salesman over buying SUV

In a scene that looked like a movie clip, a clutch of poor farmers raised Rs 10 lakh in 30 minutes after they were taunted by employees of a Mahindra car showroom in Karnataka’s Tumakuru.

As the farmers were inspecting a pick-up truck, they were taunted by the car showroom salesman over their clothes and appearance.

"I wouldn't even have Rs 10, let alone Rs 10 lakh to buy the car," Kempe Gowda, a farmer, was heard saying in a video that went viral.

“They laughed at us and pointed towards our clothes. They felt that I am not in a position to pay the money. One of their field officers told me, 'You probably don't even have Rs 10, you will buy this vehicle?’ He even said that those who come to buy a vehicle don't come to the showroom the way we had," Kempe Gowda said.

Soon tempers flared up and one of the employees said he would deliver the car to them if they were able to procure Rs 10 lakh in 30 minutes. Gowda went out and got Rs 10 lakh in under 30 minutes.

However, the showroom employees could not keep up their words as there was a waiting period for the pick-up trucks. The farmers then demanded that the showroom employees must apologise.

“If there is a fault on our side we will apologise. On your side, you must promise to never treat farmers this way,” Gowda said.

Finally, the issue went to the police station and the showroom employees closed the matter with a written apology.
