Kaali row: Delhi BJP leaders lodge complaint against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai, TMC MP Mahua Moitra
An FIR has already been registered in Bhopal against Moitra under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
Amidst the controversy errupted over Kaali film poster row, Delhi BJP leaders Harish Khurana, Rajan Tiwari and others on Thursday lodged a complaint against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai, TMC MP Mahua Moitra and others.
According to news agency ANI, the complaint has been filed under Section 295, 505 (2), 153B, 509, 120B IPC and Section 66 and 67 of IT Act for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
An FIR has already been registered in Bhopal against Moitra under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Today, Microblogging site Twitter has removed the controversial July 2 tweet of filmmaker Leena Manimekalai.
Leena had released the poster of the film 'Kaali' via a tweet which led to outrage in the country. The poster of her film depicted a woman dressed in a costume portraying the goddess and smoking.
Reacting to Twitter's action, Leena in a tweet asked whether the social media platform would also withhold posts by "hate mongers".
"This is hilarous. Will @TwitterIndia withhold the tweets of the 200000 hate mongers?! These lowlife trolls tweeted and spread the very same poster that they find objectionable. Kaali cannot be lynched. Kaali cannot be raped. Kaali cannot be destroyed. She is the goddess of death," she wrote.
On the other hand, speaking of Moitra's comments, Trinamool Congress leader and three-time party Lok Sabha member, Saugata Roy issued a statement saying that the onus is on Moitra and not on the party to take care of the FIRs.
"As far as TMC is concerned, the party doesn't approve the poster for the film 'Kaali', it's unacceptable to us. We also don't approve of Mahua Moitra's statements on the matter. It's our party's official position. Our party is secular, it respects all religions. As far as the FIRs are concerned, it's on Mahua Moitra to take care of that. Until BJP takes action on Nupur Sharma for her comments against the Prophet, they have no right to speak about anything else," the statement read.
