Porbandar: A massive fire broke out in the acacia forest behind Birla School in Porbandar on Wednesday afternoon, rapidly spreading due to strong winds. The fire posed a significant threat to the nearby Birla Colony residential area, prompting immediate action from local authorities.
Fire brigade teams were rushed to the scene, but the intense winds made it difficult to control the flames. As a precautionary measure, residents of Birla Colony were evacuated to safer locations, and important documents were removed from Birla School. In addition, gas cylinders were taken out of homes to prevent any potential explosions.
Panic Among Residents
Local residents expressed their concerns over the frequent fire incidents in the region. “Every year, we witness such fire outbreaks in the nearby Jurina forest near Oldar, but this time, it reached dangerously close to our homes,” said Rajesh Joshi, a resident of Birla Colony.
Another resident, Meena Patel, shared her fear, stating, “The fire spread so fast that we had to leave our homes immediately. We are worried about our belongings, but safety comes first.”
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. However, officials suspect that dry vegetation and strong winds may have contributed to the rapid spread.

Frequent fire incidents in Porbandar's Jurina forest region near Oldar have raised concerns among locals. “This is not the first time we have faced such a situation. The authorities must take preventive measures to avoid such disasters in the future,” said Bhavesh Vora, another resident.
The administration has urged citizens to stay cautious and report any suspicious activity that could lead to fire hazards. The fire department is continuing its efforts to control the situation, while an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
