Raipur: In a significant move for wildlife conservation in Chhattisgarh, the process of declaring Bhoramdev Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve has entered its final stage.
The decision, spearheaded by Raipur MP Brijmohan Agarwal, comes after his persistent efforts to highlight the sanctuary's importance. On his initiative, Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has issued instructions to the Chhattisgarh government via the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to move forward with the proposal.
MP Agarwal had previously written to the Union Forest Minister, emphasizing the strategic importance of Bhoramdev Sanctuary, which lies adjacent to the buffer zone of Kanha Tiger Reserve. He highlighted the sanctuary's vital role in wildlife conservation, particularly for tigers. In response, NTCA had recommended the area be designated as a tiger reserve back on July 28, 2014, and the Chhattisgarh State Wildlife Board had also given its approval.
Following the NTCA’s latest instructions to the state government, the process is now nearing completion. Once designated as Bhoramdev Tiger Reserve, the area will become a critical part of the Kanha-Achanakmar corridor, facilitating safe tiger movement and contributing to the broader conservation efforts. Additionally, the reserve will be instrumental in safeguarding other rare species, including the Barasingha.

MP Brijmohan Agarwal expressed his optimism about the decision, stating that granting Tiger Reserve status to Bhoramdev will not only enhance wildlife conservation but also spur tourism and generate employment opportunities. This, in turn, will benefit the local community economically and contribute to the state’s revenue growth.
The decision marks a historic step forward for Chhattisgarh’s ecological balance, wildlife protection, and sustainable development.
