BJP Slams West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee On Her Comment On India’s Economy At Oxford University (VIDEO)

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘I differ’ comment on Indian economy at Oxford University sparks controversy.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says that the comment is an ‘insult’ after Mamata denies the prediction that India would become the world's largest economy by 2060.

Banerjee made such a statement during a conversation at Kellogg College on Thursday late evening.

In the interview it was mentioned that India has become the fifth largest economy leaving the UK behind at the sixth position and also that by 2060 India will become the world's largest economy.

In reply, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I will differ from that. There are so many things about which I should not speak here. Internal and external affairs matters I cannot disclose. I have some other opinions. Situation have changed after Covid. Several countries are facing many problems. There are war like situations in many countries. In such a situation how can we gain? We can only hope.”

Reacting to this statement, BJP state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said that her comment is an ‘insult’.

“Her anti-India rhetoric is not only shameful for Indians but also an insult to the constitutional office she holds,” said Majumdar.

Taking to X, Majumdar wrote, “It is evident that you have failed as a chief minister, but do you even hesitate to call yourself an Indian? Are you truly an Indian? @MamataOfficial. Disrespecting the nation on foreign soil is equivalent to openly opposing India.”

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya taking to X wrote, “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has a problem with India becoming the world's largest economy. This is truly shameful. She is a disgrace to the constitutional office she holds. Who behaves like this on foreign soil?”
