Patna: A political row has erupted in Munger town after a “love jihad” tableau was taken out allegedly by Bajrang Dal members during Shivratri celebrations.
The Shivratri procession featuring at least 50 other tableaux was taken out on Wednesday and ‘love jihad’ tableau was part of them. In the ‘love jihad' tableau, clippings of newspapers were displayed with allegedly “gory images” and “communally charged” messages.
Love Jihad” is a term in a reference to allegations of religious conversions by marriage. While taking to media,
Munger’s Bajrang Dal convenor Saurabh S Sampanna asserted that the tableau was taken out to send a “social message”. He contended that no religion was named or attacked in the tableau. Our objective was to draw people’s attention towards atrocities against Hindu women in the name of marriage.
On the other hand, RJD as well as its ally Congress alleged that the tableau was taken to incite communal trouble. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari asked Nitish Kumar government to take action against those taking out the tableau.
Bihar Congress spokesperson Gyan Ranjan Gupta asserted that the
Constitution of India gave permission to nobody to attack any religion directly or indirectly. The Bajrang Dal poster was in bad taste, he added.
Meanwhile, BJP claimed, “Love Jihad is a matter of great concern but its social message could have been given in a better manner and use of some gory images for this purpose should have been avoided."
