Bathinda Military Station firing: Cops recover INSAS rifle along with magazine

The INSAS rifle used in the shooting at the Bathinda Military Camp has been recovered by a search team along with a magazine full of live rounds.

Army and Police joint teams will now be undertaking forensic analysis of the weapon for ascertaining further details.

According to TV news channel reports, the Bathinda Military Camp shooter has been nabbed by the Army and is being questioned. The killer has been arrested 9 hours after the shooting happened. At least four people were reported killed in a shooting incident at Bathinda Military Station on Wednesday morning, according to the local police.

However, the Indian Army issued a statement clarifying that the shooter is still at large and that the media reports speculating that the shooter has been arrested are false. "Some media outlets are running a story that the shooter, an Army jawan, has been caught. This news is incorrect. Request to all media outlets not to speculate. Any update, as and when available, will be immediately shared," Army said in a statement, Times Now reported.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be briefed by the Army Chief General Manoj Pande on the firing incident in a short while.

Indian Army issues a statement

"Four army jawans of an artillery unit succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the firing incident at Bathinda Military Station. No other injuries to personnel or loss/damage to property reported. The area continues to be sealed off and joint investigations with Punjab Police are being coordinated to establish the facts of the case. All aspects including the possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back are being ascertained," said the Indian Army in a statement, as reported by Times Now.

Search operation was launched on Wednesday

A search operation was launched, and the Army said "four casualties were reported in the incident. The Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated and the area was cordoned off and sealed. Search operation in progress", informed the HQ SW Command.
