Assam Rifles, DRI Seize Yaba Tablets Worth ₹168 Crore In Cachar; 1 Held

Guwahati, August 26: Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized narcotic substances worth approximately Rs 168 crore in the general area of Jujhang Pahar, Lakhipur, in Cachar district, during a major crackdown on an inter-state narcotics trafficking network.

The joint operation, conducted during the night of August 25-26, led to the recovery of 5,60,000 Yaba tablets weighing approximately 60 kg and valued at approximately ₹168 crore. One drug peddler was apprehended and a Tata truck allegedly being used to transport the contraband was also seized.

Major narcotics seizure

The contraband is suspected to have originated from neighbouring Manipur and was being transported towards Assam through NH-37.

A preliminary assessment indicates that the inter-state syndicate was attempting to use the Cachar and Sribhumi districts as transit corridors for onward transport to mainland India.

Investigation underway

The apprehended individual and the recovered items have been handed over to the authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The seizure marks a major setback to the inter-state narcotics syndicate and highlights the role of coordinated operations between Assam Rifles and the DRI in disrupting narcotics trafficking routes.
