Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued with his engagements on his 3-day Gujarat tour and visited the Morbi bridge collapse site on Tuesday before leaving for New Delhi, the State authorities spruced up the local civil hospital ahead of his visit.

A massive overnight clean-up operation was launched at the Morbi Civil Hospital while the entire building was being painted afresh while the bridge collapse victims struggled for life inside. 

The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday came down heavily on the BJP and the Prime Minister over renovation being taken up at the hospital when such a huge tragedy taken place on Sunday.

Official death toll at 136

The official death toll has been put at 136 though there are claims that some more people had died.  

Sharing photos and videos of white-wash and other renovation works being done at the hospital, both Congress and AAP wondered that this work had to be done now just to show a rosy picture to Modi.

Terming the renovation as a preparation on “war footing”, Congress social media and digital platforms chairperson Supriya Shrinate said the hospitalwas painted on a “war footing” ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. alleged that it is being done ahead of PM Modi’s visit. 

She tweeted, “In a hospital with gleaming walls and new tiles, the injured might feel better - there's hope. About 200 people are reported to have died in the Morbi tragedy.” she added. 

AAP takes a dig at BJP

Not to be left behind, the Aam Aadmi Party also shared a video of renovation work at the hospital and took a dig saying that it is being done so that “the poor building does not get exposed in PM Modi's photoshoot.”

 “Overnight painting is being done in Morbi Civil Hospital so that the poor building does not get exposed in PM Modi's photoshoot,” tweeted the official page of AAP. 

 “141 people are dead, hundreds of people are missing, no action has been taken against the real culprits, but BJP workers are worried about the photoshoots”, it added.
