KPop Demon Hunters To Get Sequel After Becoming Netflix's Most-Streamed Movie With 236 Million Views?

The animated film KPop Demon Hunters, based on a story conceived by director Maggie Kang, has become Netflix’s most-watched movie ever in the English Film list, amassing 236 million views and surpassing Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot’s Red Notice. Recent reports indicate that discussions have already begun for a sequel to the hit film.

According to a report in Variety report, Netflix and Sony are already in talks for the next instalment to follow up on the animated feature. While there is no official confirmation yet, KPop Demon Hunters co-director Maggie Kang, who helmed the project alongside Chris Appelhans, had previously expressed hopes for a sequel.

Kang told Variety, "We've set up so much for potential backstory. Obviously, there's a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there's only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes."

KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), members of the pop group Huntr/x, who secretly moonlight as demon hunters. When their greatest demonic enemy (Lee Byung-hun) forms a rival K-pop boy band to steal their fans’ souls, the trio must fight to protect both their fans and their friendship.

Meanwhile, a sing-along version of the film also hit US theatres, debuting at No. 1 at the box office.

The animated feature stars voice performances by Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun.

KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix on June 20, earlier this year, with a sing-along edition receiving a two-day limited theatre release on August 23rd and 24th.
