'It Has Become My Identity': Shaan Says GenZ Knows Him From Viral 'Ye L**da Bolna Band Karo' Video, Not Aware Of His Songs
Renowned singer Shaan finally broke silence on his viral clip from several years back in which he was seen reprimanding youngsters for abusing during his Instagram live session. "That meme has now become my identity. Gen Z and young millennials don’t know me as someone who sings, they only know me from the cuss word," he said.

Renowned singer Shaan finally broke silence on his viral clip from several years back in which he was seen reprimanding youngsters for abusing during his Instagram live session. The singer said that the video turned into a meme and it has now become his identity, especially among the GenZ population, who don't even know that he is actually a singer.
Recalling the incident, Shaan said, "I was reading the comments, and I did not have my spectacles on. I did not know that people cuss others in the comments. When I was reading them out, one of them said, ‘abey aye l**da’. Someone screen-recorded me reading it, and it became a meme."
While it would otherwise be a forgettable moment for Shaan, the internet went into a tizzy seeing the singer reading out the abuse loud during a live session, and the clip went on to become one of the most viral memes on Instagram.
"That meme has now become my identity. Gen Z and young millennials don’t know me as someone who sings, they only know me from the cuss word. Even my children’s friends are surprised when they see me and say, 'Oh hey, he’s your dad?' When they tell him, 'Yeah, he’s singer Shaan', they say no and show them the meme," Shaan shared.
For those unversed, the video went viral after Shaan, who is known for his soft-spoken and happy-go-lucky demeanour, was seen scolding the users who abused in the comments section, and even lost his cool when a user tried to demean him.
"Ye l**da bolna band karo yaar, kya hai ye? Tameez se baat karenge, gaali vaali mat do. That shows your true colours," the disappointed singer was heard saying.

Someone then questioned him who he was, and Shaan did not hold back. "Ask your parents who I am, ask your teachers about me. I might have sung less, might be less popular, but I don’t need to tell you who I am," he said.
Shaan has some of the most popular Bollywood tracks to his credit, ranging from romantic to peppy. He is the voice behind songs like Chand Sifarish, Tanha Dil, Hey Shona, Behti Hawaa Sa Tha Woh, Jab Se Tere Naina, and other songs.
