Seems like there is no respite anytime soon for comedian Samay Raina, Youtuber Ranveer Allahbadia and the others panel members of the latest episode of India's Got Latent as another FIR has been filed against them for "promoting sexually explicit and vulgar discussion". The FIR has been filed by Assam Police and the information was shared by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself.
Sarma took to his official X handle and wrote that the Guwahati Police has registered an FIR against Samay, Ranveer, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, Jaspreet Singh and others, "for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled India's Got Latent".
The FIR has been registered under several sections of the BNS including one against "indecent representation of women".
An investigation in the case is now underway, he said.
What is the India's Got Latent controversy?
For those who still don't know the entire story, it all began after Ranveer, Apoorva and Ashish appeared as guests in the latest episode of India's Got Latent, which is hosted by Samay.
During the episode, Ranveer asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life — or would you join in once and stop it forever?" Apoorva and Samay were seen laughing at the supposed "joke".
In another segment, Apoorva asked a contestant if he had ever seen a vagina.
This did not go down well with netizens, who slammed the show and the content creators for promoting vulgarity online. Later, Ranveer issued an apology, stating that there was a "lapse in judgement" on his part.
A complaint has also been registered with the Mumbai Police against against Ranveer, Samay and Apoorva over the alleged use of 'abusive language' on the show and for 'promoting obscenity'.
