'Extremely Shameful': Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal 'Disgusted' By Badshah's Haryanvi Track Tateeree, Demands Strict Action

Rapper-singer Badshah landed in trouble over his new Haryanvi track Tateeree, which sparked backlash for its allegedly vulgar lyrics, offensive language and gestures, and visuals showing girls in school uniforms. An FIR was filed against him at Sector 20 police station in Panchkula following complaints from residents who raised concerns about the song’s impact on societal norms. Earlier, the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) had also issued a formal summons to the singer over the alleged objectionable lyrics in the track.

Swati Maliwal 'Disgusted' By Badshah's Track Tateeree

Amid the controversy, on Saturday (March 7), Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal said she was 'disgusted' by Badshah's new song and urged authorities to take strict action against him. On X (Twitter), Maliwal wrote, "Disgusted by singer Badshah’s new song objectifying schoolgirls with crass and vulgar lyrics. It is extremely Shameful & unacceptable! Artists with such influence must act responsibly. This can’t be normalized as entertainment. There must be an immediate takedown & strict action!"

Controversy Over Tateeree Song

The case was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Sector 20, Panchkula, on Friday after one Abhay Choudhry alleged that the song and its video contained elements that were obscene, disrespectful, and objectionable, and inappropriate gestures.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Haryana police have booked Badshah – real name Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia – under Section 296 of BNS as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Two Complaints Received Against Badshah

Talking about the case filed against Badshah, DSP Sanjay Kumar said two complaints were received, one from GM Roadways Jind and another from Sheela Devi, the head teacher of Government Primary School in Sachha Khera. Based on these complaints, two FIRs were registered under the same sections: one at Sadar Narwana police station and another at Civil Lines police station in Jind. The complaints alleged that the song hurt the dignity of women and offended cultural sentiments.

"Accordingly, cases were registered at Civil Lines police station Jind and Sadar Narwana under Sections 296, 353(2), 356(2) and 79 of the BNS along with provisions of the IT Act," said Sanjay Kumar, as per PTI.

The song, however, is no longer available on YouTube. The message shows, "This content is not available on this country domain due to legal complaint from the government."

As of now, Badshah has not yet reacted to the controversy.
