'The Kashmir Files' maker Vivek Agnihotri recently made headlines after he shared a video of himself with his Y category security in Delhi. Several users took digs at him for "using taxpayers' money" and the filmmaker has now finally responded to them.

On Saturday, Agnihotri replied to a Twitter user who called him anti-national and said that money was being wasted on his security.

"Shocking to see how much of tax payers’ money is being wasted on security on a scumbag anti-national like you," the user wrote.

Responding to it, Agnihotri shared a picture of the army in Kashmir and tweeted, "Tax payers money is used here to combat religious terrorism. If this stops, I can also live freely."

On Friday, the filmmaker had shared a video of himself taking a walk in Delhi surrounded by bodyguards and cops. "This is the cost of freedom of expression in India," a line in the video read.

Along with it, he tweeted, "The price one has to pay to show the Genocide of Hindus in Kashmir. In a Hindu majority country. Freedom of expression, ha! #ImprisonedInOwnCountry #Fatwa"

The Kashmir Files controversy

Agnihotri had been in news throughout the year for his film 'The Kashmir Files'. Written, directed and produced by him, the film centres on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during militancy in the early 1990s. It is one of the highest grossing films of the year.

While a section of the country lauded the film for showing the ghastly events that took place in the valley, another section criticised it by labelling it as "propaganda".

Apart from that, it was also recently screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2022), wherein Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid called it "vulgar" and stated that it was aimed at spreading hatred.

'The Kashmir Files' stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumarr, Mithun Chakraborty, Puneet Issar and others. It emerged to be a hit not just in India, but also abroad.
