Mumbai's Gaiety cinema hall to remain shut till Sept 9: 'Films are not working well', reveals director Manoj Desai | FPJ Exclusive
The Free Press Journal contacted Executive Director of G7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema, Manoj Desai, who confirmed the news.
Several latest Bollywood films such as Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha', Akshay Kumar's 'Raksha Bandhan', Vijay Deverakonda's 'Liger' and Taapsee Pannu's 'Dobaaraa' have failed to grab the attention of the audience.
This has reportedly forced some theatre owners to partially close the screens or reduce the shows until the release of one of the most-awaited films 'Brahmastra'.
After such reports surfaced online, The Free Press Journal contacted Executive Director of G7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema, Manoj Desai, who confirmed the news.

He said, "Films are not working well these days and if this continues, then we'll shut Gaiety Cinema till September 9. All the other theatres shall remain open. Also, these days, people are busy because of Ganesh Chaturthi and Bandra Fair. So now, we've not fixed anything. We'll have a meeting now. But mostly, Gaiety will be shut and apart from that all the theatres will remain open. I have seven theatres and six will be working. Because there are no films now, there's no point in keeping the theatre open."
Desai added that Gaiety will be re-opened on September 9 when 'Brahmastra' releases.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. Shah Rukh Khan also has a guest appearance in the film.
