Bheed: RajKummar Rao's 'black and white' lockdown drama to tell hard-hitting story of migrant workers
Bheed depicts the hard-hitting reality of social disparity at the times when borders were drawn within the country

The makers of RajKummar Rao and Bhumi Pedenkar's Bheed on Friday announced that the film is made completely in black and white. A few days back, the makers had shared several monochrome pictures to intrigue the audiences.
RajKummar Rao took to his official Instagram account and shared a video from the 2020 lockdown, reminding similar times when people were uprooted from their homes during the 1947 partition.
"Hum kahaani bata rahe hai uss waqt ki jab batwara desh mein nahi, samaaj mein hua tha. #Bheed, a story of the darkest times, in black and white. Releasing in cinemas on 24th March 2023," he captioned his post.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Bheed also stars Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastav, Kritika Kamra, and Karan Pandit. The social drama will release in theatres on March 24, 2023.
Bheed depicts the hard-hitting reality of social disparity at the times when borders were drawn within the country. It is a story of the time when migrant workers were stranded without necessities, trying to find their way home in the middle of the COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown.
Revealing the reason behind shooting the film in black and white, Anubhav Sinha says the story is about people whose lives changed in a snap and the colors from their lives were lost when the border was drawn within the country.
"The objective of shooting the film in black and white was to showcase how the visuals of the social disparity during the lockdown were strikingly similar to what people went through during the 1947 India partition," the director said.
