Mumbai: Actress Antara Banerjee Arrested For Allegedly Attacking RPF Personnel With Razor On Train

Mumbai: A 31-year-old model-actress from Thane was arrested after allegedly attacking RPF personnel, a ticket checker and herself with a razor blade during a seat dispute aboard the Aravali Express on August 12. The incident, which lasted for over an hour and left passengers alarmed, occurred while the train was travelling towards Surat, where the woman was reportedly headed for a web-series shoot.

According to the FIR registered by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on August 13, the incident began after a passenger asked the woman, identified as Antara Banerjee, to vacate a reserved seat. When she allegedly refused, the passenger called the RPF and ticket-checking staff. RPF ASI Yamini Kant Mishra and constable Rajesh Kumar reached the spot after being informed by ticket checker Harikesh Tripathi and a co-passenger. The complaint alleges that Banerjee became aggressive, abused the officials and subsequently removed her clothes, waved a razor blade and injured Mishra, the ticket checker and herself.

The RPF complaint further alleges that during the altercation, Banerjee damaged Mishra's uniform and mobile phone and broke her spectacles. As the situation escalated, RPF personnel reportedly closed the AC coach doors to prevent the incident from spreading. Banerjee allegedly broke the glass while attempting to get out. The train was subsequently taken to Dahanu, where she was handed over to the GRP.

Police said the case was registered under various provisions relating to endangering passenger safety, causing serious injuries to government employees, assault and intentional insult. The FIR also mentions that Banerjee was travelling towards Surat after reportedly failing to get an AC ticket and entering an AC coach with a sleeper-class ticket.

The incident took place between around 9.30 pm and 10.50 pm, according to the complaint. Police said officials had tried to persuade her to contact relatives or a legal adviser, but she allegedly refused to cooperate and demanded that she be arrested.Banerjee was subsequently arrested and later released on bail after being served a notice. The police investigation is continuing.
