Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Vigilance Department on Wednesday arrested a deputy education officer posted in the Doiwala area of ​​Dehradun district, along with a female colleague, for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

Officials said that an individual had lodged a complaint with the department alleging that Deputy Education Officer Dhanveer Singh Bisht was demanding a bribe in exchange for processing the payment of bills for the fee reimbursement of students studying under the Right to Education Act at the complainant's institution, the Ganga Valley Junior High School, located in Rishikesh.

They added that, following an investigation into the complaint, the department laid a trap and caught Bisht and his colleague, Pushpanjali, while accepting the bribe.

Officials further informed that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
