Mumbai: The United Kingdom has launched a UK Education Hub in India, aiming to sharpen and streamline bilateral academic cooperation under the India–UK Vision 2035 roadmap. The Hub was inaugurated at the British Council in New Delhi, placing higher education at the centre of the strategic partnership.
About The Event
The event was led by UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, in the presence of the British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, academic leaders including Prof. Eloise Philips of the University of Southampton Delhi, and Sir Steve Smith. Senior officials from both governments and universities also attended. Officials said the Hub would act as a single coordination platform, aligning India’s National Education Policy with the UK’s International Education Strategy.
Rather than a series of fragmented initiatives, it is designed to provide a structured mechanism for collaboration among universities, regulators and industry bodies. Mr Lammy described education as a long-term investment, arguing that the Hub would narrow the gap between policy and practice by enabling institutions to share expertise and build sustained partnerships.
“Delivering quality education today will change the world of tomorrow,” he said. Operationally, the Hub will oversee the Annual Ministerial India–UK Education Dialogue, support UK universities seeking engagement in India, and work towards resolving longstanding issues such as mutual recognition of qualifications. It will also facilitate education and skills missions in both directions, reinforcing the UK’s ambition to remain a leading global education partner as India expands international collaboration under its reform agenda.
