Tension erupted at Sharda University following the death by suicide of a second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student in her campus hostel room on Friday late at night. The student from Gurugram, Haryana, left behind a handwritten suicide note in which she specifically named two faculty members—Mahender Sir and Shairg Ma’am—alleging them of persistent mental harassment and public humiliation, which she cited as the reason behind her drastic decision.

In the note, she wrote: “If I die, the teachers of PCP and Dental Material will be responsible for this. Mahender Sir and Shairg Ma'am are responsible for my death. They mentally harassed me. They insulted me. I have been under stress for a long time. I want them to suffer the same. Sorry, I cannot live anymore.”

According to the IANS report, Police, acting on an alert from university officials, reached the Knowledge Park campus hostel and quickly secured the scene. The body was sent for post-mortem, while a forensic team collected evidence from the room. Officers registered an FIR based on a complaint from the student's family, booking both implicated teachers under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. The two faculty members have since been arrested and suspended from their duties as the investigation proceeds.

News of the incident ignited widespread protests on campus, as hundreds of students and family members gathered outside the university, demanding accountability and immediate action.
