Mumbai University Signs MoU To Boost Marathi Language Research

Mumbai: In a significant step towards promoting research in the Marathi language and its rich linguistic heritage, the MyBoli Study and Research Centre of the University of Mumbai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Marathi Language University, Riddhapur in Amravati district.

The agreement was signed in the presence of University of Mumbai Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni and Marathi Language University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Avinash Avalgaonkar.

Under the collaboration, the two universities will jointly undertake research projects on the Marathi language, literature, culture, folk traditions and its diverse dialects. The partnership also aims to encourage academic writing, publication of reference books and knowledge creation to strengthen Marathi language studies and research.

The MoU provides for academic exchange programmes for students and faculty members, besides the organisation of national and international conferences, workshops, lecture series and training programmes. The institutions will also collaborate on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing (NLP), language technology, digital language resources and computational linguistics.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the partnership will focus on curriculum development, credit transfer, creation of digital learning resources and the shared use of research laboratories and academic infrastructure. The universities will also work towards documenting, preserving and promoting India's knowledge traditions, local linguistic heritage and the various dialects of Marathi.

Officials said the collaboration is expected to provide new opportunities for Marathi language research at the national and international levels while strengthening the language's presence in the digital era. The initiatives under the agreement will be implemented jointly by both institutions, said Dr. Vinod Kumre, In-charge Director of the MyBoli Study and Research Centre.
