FDA Inspects Two IIT Bombay Campus Canteens; Institute Says It Will Ensure Compliance

Mumbai: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently carried out inspections at two food outlets operating on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay campus, following which the institute said it is awaiting the detailed inspection report and will implement all recommendations made by the authorities.

Responding to the inspection, an IIT Bombay spokesperson said the exercise was part of a review of a few eateries on the campus and that the FDA had provided suggestions and recommendations for improvements.

"Few of our eateries were reviewed and suggestions and recommendations are provided by the FDA. We are awaiting the detailed report," the spokesperson said.

The institute also reiterated its commitment to maintaining food safety standards and complying with the directions issued by the regulatory authority."We are keen on doing all improvements and on compliance," the spokesperson added.The inspections were conducted as part of the FDA's routine monitoring of food establishments to assess hygiene, food handling practices and compliance with food safety regulations.

The detailed findings of the inspection are yet to be made public.IIT Bombay said it would review the observations once the final report is received and take the necessary corrective measures to ensure adherence to prescribed food safety norms.The inspection comes amid increased scrutiny of food safety standards at educational institutions and public establishments across Maharashtra, with the FDA undertaking regular inspections to improve hygiene and regulatory compliance.
