Extra Pension Benefits For NPS Retirees, Spouses Also Eligible Under New UPS Scheme

New Delhi: The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is a new benefit plan launched by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). It is for central government employees who retired under the National Pension System (NPS). The benefits also apply to their legally wedded spouses.
Who can apply?
You are eligible if:
- You are a Central Government employee.
- You retired under NPS on or before March 31, 2025.
- You have completed at least 10 years of qualifying service.
- Your legally wedded spouse can also apply if you are no longer alive.

What benefits do you get?
1. One-time lump sum
You will get a one-time payment. It is equal to one-tenth of your last basic pay plus dearness allowance (DA) for every six months of service.
2. Monthly top-up
You will get extra money every month. It is the difference between the UPS payout (with dearness relief) and the annuity you receive under NPS.
3. Interest on arrears
If there are any pending amounts, you will also get simple interest. This is calculated at Public Provident Fund (PPF) rates.
How to apply for UPS benefits?
Offline method:
- Download the correct form from www.npscra.nsdl.co.in/ups.php
- Use Form B2 if you are the retiree.
- Use Form B4 or B6 if you are the spouse.
- Submit it to the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) of your last office.
Online method:
- Visit the same website.
- Fill the online form.
- Submit it directly to the DDO.
Important Deadline
- Apply between April 1, 2025, and June 30, 2025
- Applications after this will not be accepted.
