Train Theft Crackdown: Bhopal GRP Recovers ₹62.26 Lakh Property, Traces 177 Phones

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Government Railway Police (GRP) intensified its crackdown on thefts on trains and at railway stations during August while recovering property worth Rs 62.26 lakh and tracing 177 stolen or lost mobile phones.

The special drive was conducted across different police station areas under the Bhopal GRP unit on the directions of railway superintendent of police Ankit Jaiswal.

Habitual offenders were kept under surveillance, while trains and areas vulnerable to theft were identified for special checking.

SP Jaiswal said special surveillance was ordered on 10 trains that had reported repeated theft incidents. During the drive, the GRP Bhopal team arrested suspects involved in thefts on trains and platforms and recovered five mobile phones.

The GRP Itarsi recovered stolen jewellery, cash and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees in separate cases. In Gwalior, police used CCTV footage to trace and recover an abducted girl within 24 hours.

The Gwalior GRP also busted a gang involved in thefts from trains, railway stations and outer areas, recovering 27 mobile phones and a motorcycle, along with property worth Rs 10.32 lakh.

Meanwhile, the GRP Bina arrested a habitual thief and seized stolen property worth Rs 7.82 lakh.
