Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Taking a jibe at the US President, Donald Trump, for imposing a heavy tariff on Indian goods, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday that some people are not happy with India’s progress and “are trying that things exported by India become costlier than the locally produced items. But now, no one can stop India from becoming a global power.”

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) Rail Manufacturing Hub in Umariya village of Raisen district. The Rs 1,800-cr hub will manufacture modern train coaches.

Ever since he took over the reins of the country in 2014, PM Narendra Modi has been stressing the importance of a self-reliant India, he said, even as he praised the pace of industrialisation in the state, adding that it wouldn’t be a wonder if people soon started calling Madhya Pradesh a modern state.

He also praised the Mohan Yadav government for preparing a land bank of 48,000 hectares.

In 2014, Singh said, when the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre, defence exports stood at a mere Rs 600 crore. In a decade, they have grown to over Rs 24,000 crore.  Earlier, defence equipment was imported as per the requirement. Now, many of them are not only manufactured indigenously, but even exported to other countries, he said.

Speaking about the Pahalgam attack and India’s retaliatory Operation Sindoor, he said, “In Pahalgam, terrorists shot down people after asking their religion…we decided to take revenge by checking their karma…whoever ruffles our feathers will not be spared.”

Meanwhile, President and BEML CMD Shantanu Roy and others were also present for the inauguration. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaisnaw joined the programme virtually.

‘New direction to progress’

CM Mohan Yadav said that the Rolling Stock Factor of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) will provide a new direction to the progress of Madhya Pradesh. It will benefit Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, and Vidisha and will open a new window of development.  Coming up on 148 acres of land, the unit will be directly connected to the highway, rail, and air routes.

Shivraj praises Modi

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the courage of the Modi government in Operation Sindoor. He said that the Umaria village of Raisen has received the gift of the rail coach factory, and it will provide jobs to the locals. He also thanked the CM for quickly providing land to the factory.
