Shocker! Woman Given Sulphas Tablet For Toothache By Chemist In MP's Jhabua, Dies

Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): A 32-year-old woman died after consuming a sulphas tablet instead of painkiller to seek relief from toothache in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district on Saturday. She got the tablet from a chemist store.

According to reports, the victim identified as Rekha was from Dharampuri village, approximately 3 km from the district headquarters. She visited a pharmacy near Thandla gate on Thursday evening requesting medication for her toothache.

The person at the store accidentally gave her sulphas tablet, which she consumed later that night at home. After she consumed the tablet her health deteriorated. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where officials confirmed her death.

After the incident, the family registered a formal complaint on Friday, and the body was sent for post-mortem. Post mortem reports revealed the death of the woman was due to poisonous sulphas tablet.

According to Jhabua police, efforts are on to arrest the salesperson who gave the tablet to the woman under section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The SP said investigations are underway to determine sulphas tablet's existence at the store, which has since been sealed, and the Drug Control Department is also involved in the probe.
