RSS, Janata Party & All Patriots Made Sacrifices Against Emergency: MP CM Mohan Yadav | X / Mohan Yadav
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): On the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that the contribution of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Janata Party in restoring democracy was 'historic.'
In a statement released on Wednesday (June 25), Yadav said that due to the sacrifices made during the Emergency, India today stands as the world’s largest and most vibrant republic.
He added that many patriotic organisations, including the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Janata Party, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), played a crucial role in protecting democracy during that dark period.
BJP celebrates 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'
The Emergency, declared by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975, lasted 21 months and is remembered for the suspension of civil liberties, jailing of opposition leaders, and press censorship.
The BJP is observing the day as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas (Constitution Killing Day).
Chief Minister Yadav compared the Emergency struggle to the freedom movement. He praised leaders like Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Morarji Desai, and Chaudhary Charan Singh, who united against the Emergency and fought to protect democratic values.
He said this collective fight is why all those jailed under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency are honored today as “Democracy Fighters.”
“Our ideological family played an important role in saving democracy and establishing India as a strong republic globally,” Yadav said, saluting everyone who resisted the Emergency and stood for the nation’s democratic future.
