Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On the auspicious occasion of Devi Ahilya Jayanti on Saturday, Indore will witness a landmark moment with the long-awaited launch of the Indore Metro. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the metro train from Bhopal.
During a pre-event inspection of the metro station, Indore mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav called it “a proud moment for the city.”
He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, chief minister and the people of Indore for making this dream a reality.
Mayor Bhargav also announced that the first metro ride would begin from the Devi Ahilya Metro Terminal and requested that upcoming metro stations be named after iconic women warriors like Rani Lakshmibai, Jhalkaribai and Avantibai.
He emphasised that under the leadership of PM Modi and CM Mohan Yadav, Indore was scaling new heights of development. He added, “This is not just the launch of a train, but the birth of a new lifeline for our city.”
The mayor revealed that the first week of Metro services would be free for passengers. The inaugural journey would be dedicated to women, with gradual expansion of service to all travellers as per metro department plans.
