Former director NHM (vaccination) Dr Santosh Shukla said, ‘Madhya Pradesh is a big state and there must be at least 5 yellow fever vaccination centres. AIIMS, Bhopal has only one centre. Earlier, JP Hospital (district hospital) had one yellow fever vaccination centre but after AIIMS, Bhopal, came into existence, JP Hospital’s vaccination centre was removed and AIIMS, Bhopal, has been made centre for it.
At least old centres should be opened in government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh for convenience of foreign country travellers. The vaccine is recommended for travellers visiting countries where yellow fever is endemic. In India, the vaccine is available at authorised centres, and the cost is Rs 300 per dose.’
