MP: TMC MP Mahua Moitra booked in Bhopal for contentious take on goddess Kali; 2 more FIR on movie Kaali

An FIR was lodged against TMC West Bengal MP Mahua Moitra at Crime Branch Bhopal against alleged remarks against goddess Kali, here on Wednesday.

The FIR was lodged against the fiery MP under section 295 A (Outraging religious sentiments of any class /community).

Chief Minister SHivraj Singh Chouhan had on Wednesday said that Moitra’s comments have hurt religious sentiments and this won’t be tolerated at any cost.

To add, the TMC MP had commented on a contentious poster which had depicted goddess Kali in controversial manner.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had warned to impose a ban on the film 'Kaali' if the objectionable posters showing the Goddess smoking a cigarette are not removed.

Calling it an insult of Goddess Kaali, the minister also said that if posters were not removed, the government will lodge an FIR against the film's director.

"Maa Kaali's insult will not be tolerated, strict action will be taken. We will ask for the registration of an FIR. We will also ban the film in the state. Strict action will be taken if the posters are not removed," Mishra said.

An officer from Bhopal police confirmed the lodging of FIR against Moitra on Wednesday.

Madurai-born filmmaker based in Toronto in Canada Leena Manimekalai came under sharp criticism after she shared the poster of 'Kaali' on Twitter allegedly depicting the goddess in a "disrespectful" manner.

The poster of the movie has evoked sharp reactions on social media with some people alleging that it hurt their religious sentiments and demanding the arrest of the filmmaker.

Amid the immense backlash, the director had said she was willing to pay with her life and added that she had nothing to lose.

FIR IN PANNAGARH:

An FIR was also registered in Jabalpur's Panagar police station, against the makers of the movie Kaali, Leena Mani Mekalai and editor Shravan Onachan.

Case was registered under section 295-A 153 and sections of IT Act in an attempt to incite the sentiments of Hindu religion on the poster of the film Kali.

Harsh Tiwari, son of Panagar MLA Indu Tiwari, lodged an FIR at Panagar police station and demanded to change the poster as soon as possible.
