According to information, the girl was identified as Malishka, who was shot dead by her own grandfather in Badarpura village.
According to police, Malishka’s grandfather, Sirnam Singh, was upset over the relationship and concerned about the family's image in society.
On the night of the incident, he took her to a roadside waiting area and shot her three times at close range with a country-made pistol.
He then returned home, pretending nothing had happened.
The family tried to mislead police by blaming the murder on an old land dispute with a local man named Bhikam. Sirnam claimed that Bhikam’s son had shot Malishka over the issue.
But police grew suspicious when Malishka’s father, Lakhan Singh, gave confusing and changing statements.
After being questioned strictly, Lakhan confessed the truth — that Malishka was killed by her grandfather due to her love affair.
Police also found out that the family had earlier approved her relation with a relative, but later opposed her new relationship.
The police have arrested Sirnam and others involved in the cover-up. The case is still under investigation.
