Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is all set to be enveloped in with severe cold waves as melting snow in the northern mountains is inducing icy winds towards the south. The effect of cyclone Fengal also seems to reduce and, hence, the next 48 hours can bring rain to the eastern parts of the state, including Jabalpur, Rewa, and Shahdol divisions.
Meanwhile, cities like Bhopal and Indore will experience chilly weather. Currently, Gwalior and the Chambal region are the coldest areas in the state, with Gwalior recording a temperature of 8.5°C.
What do meteorologists say?
According to senior meteorologist Ved Prakash Singh, Gwalior, Ujjain, and the Chambal region would see the coldest temperatures this season, with frequent cold waves.
Also, IMD Bhopal meteorologist VS Yadav stated that a western disturbance is likely to cause snowfall in the northern mountains. When this snow melts, icy winds will sweep across Madhya Pradesh, increasing the chill. On December 8, rain is expected in the state's eastern regions.
The weather department predicts fluctuating conditions until mid-December, including periods of rain, cloudy skies, and cold spells.
Severe cold from December 20
However, from December 20, a prolonged period of severe cold is expected, which may continue through January. During this time, cold waves are likely for 20 to 22 days. Ujjain, Gwalior, and the Chambal region are expected to bear the brunt of the cold due to direct icy winds.
