MP December 13 Weather Updates: Cold Wave Alert Issued For Next 4 Days; Expect Icy  Winds In 28 Districts Including Bhopal, Jabalpur

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The cold wave alert has Madhya Pradesh shivering. As many as 28 districts are expected to witness chilly winds, including Bhopal and Jabalpur, on Friday. The cold wave alert is forecast to remain for the next four days.

The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to remain low due to snowfall in the northern hills and the influence of a western disturbance. However, the western Madhya Pradesh including Indore and Ujjain might see slight relief.

According to the Meteorological Department, districts like Jabalpur, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Maihar, Umaria, Shahdol, Dindori, Seoni, and Narmadapuram will experience cold winds on Friday. 

Weather expected on Friday

Bhopal, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Neemuch, Vidisha, Sehore, Raisen, Katni, and Sidhi will face both cold days and cold winds. 

Mandla, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Betul, and Narsinghpur are expected to have cold days with chilly daytime temperatures.

In November, the state also experienced unusually low temperatures, with Bhopal recording its coldest November in 36 years. Cities like Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Gwalior recorded temperatures up to 7 degrees below normal.

What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s senior meteorologist Divya E. Surendran, two factors are contributing to the extreme cold in Madhya Pradesh at present. Firstly, the high-speed winds at an altitude of 12.6 km in northwest India are bringing cold air to Madhya Pradesh. If these winds pick up speed or lower in altitude, the cold will intensify.

A western disturbance over northern Pakistan, along with a cyclonic circulation, is causing snow to melt and cold winds to blow into the region.

Temperature Records

On Thursday, cold waves swept through several parts of the state, including Bhopal and Jabalpur. Districts like Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Dindori, Katni, Umaria, Shahdol, Sidhi, Maihar, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari were all affected.

Several cities recorded low maximum temperatures on Thursday:

Regarding the big cities, Bhopal experienced a  daytime temperature of 23.4°C, Indore 24.8°C, Gwalior 23.9°C, Ujjain 26°C and Jabalpur (25.6°C).

In the other cities, the temperature were as follows:

Malajkhand in Balaghat (22.4°C), Tikamgarh (23.8°C), Rewa (23.7°C), Narsinghpur (23.4°C), and Betul (24.8°C).
