Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The BJP is all set to get its state unit president within a week. The process for electing the state party president may begin from July 1. The new president will be announced on July 2.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is also electoral officer for the state party presidential poll, will complete the election process.
There are speculations over the decision on the state party president. BJP’s state unit president VD Sharma has been on this post for five and half years.
After the election of the district unit presidents in January, everyone was waiting for the election of the state unit president.
Among the names doing the rounds for the post of the state unit president, Hemant Khandelwal is ahead of others in race for the post.
Khandelwal is an MLA from Betul. He has the support of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Besides Khandelwal, the BJP may mull over the names of some women leaders for the post.
Among the women leaders the names of the minister Sampatia Uikey, legislator Archana Chitnis and others are doing the rounds for the top job.
The RSS functionaries may play an important role in the election of the BJP’s state president.
Regional organisational general secretary Ajay Jamwal interacted separately with the senior leaders of the party over the election of state president and submitted a report to the BJP’s national organisational secretary BL Santosh.
