Madhya Pradesh August 12, 2025 Weather Updates: Monsoon To End Its Brief Break In West & Central Parts; Low Pressure To Escalate Showers From August 13

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After almost a 2-week break, rains are expected in central and western parts of the state. A low pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal will become active from August 13 which will directly impact Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain divisions.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 11 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur, on Tuesday. Up to 4.5 inches of rain is expected in the next 24 hours.

On Tuesday morning, heavy showers stroke Damoh and Maihar, while Bhopal remained under dense cloud cover. Naugaon in Chhatarpur district recorded 2.3 inches of rain on Monday. Light rain occurred in Datia, Gwalior, Pachmarhi, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna and Seoni.

Heavy rainfall alert

According to the forecast, Chhatarpur, Satna, Panna, Rewa, Maihar, Damoh, Katni, Jabalpur, Seoni, Mandla and Balaghat are likely to receive heavy rain within the next 24 hours.

Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori, Anuppur, Sidhi, Mauganj and Rewa will get heavy showers on August 13.

Dewas, Sehore, Khandwa, Harda, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Chhindwara and Pandhurna are on yellow alert on August 14.

What do meteorologists say?

A trough and two cyclonic circulations are currently active, with a low pressure system set to strengthen from August 13 which will bring continuous heavy rain from August 15 onwards. Scientists predict that by the end of August many districts will achieve or surpass their seasonal rainfall quota.

Rainfall Quota

By now, 10 districts have completed their quota. The eastern region (Jabalpur, Sagar, Shahdol, Rewa divisions) has received 36% above average rainfall, while the western region (Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, Narmadapuram divisions) is 23% above average. Overall, the state has recorded 29% more rain than usual.

Rainfall Highlights

Highest rainfall was recorded in Guna (45.8 inches), Niwari (45.1 inches),Mandla, Tikamgarh (44 inches) and Ashoknagar (42 inches). Vidisha, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Balaghat, Dindori, Sagar, Panna, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Narmadapuram, Umaria received rainfall of about 30+ inches. Indore division still remains behind (lowest) in rainfall totals.
