Dwarka Was Mahabharata-Era City That Got Submerged, ASI Alok Tripathi Says Modern Tech Should Be Used To Locate Ancient Habitations | FPJ
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): City of Dwarka was established by Lord Krishna during Mahabharata period and information about its subsequent submergence in the sea is available in Puranas, additional Director General, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Professor Alok Tripathi said.
Tripathi was speaking on ‘Underwater Archaeological Investigations,’ in an event organised by Dr Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar Archaeological Research Institute in the city on Thursday to mark the death anniversary of renowned archaeologist Wakankar.
Tripathi gave a detailed description of the discovery of Prince Royal cargo ship which had met with an accident in 1792 and submerged. He informed about the challenges faced in the discovery of the cargo ship and the cannon and other antiquities recovered from its debris.
’The excavations done by underwater archaeology team as part of the discovery of Dwarka were highlighted and on the basis of descriptions mentioned in literature, Mahabharata and Puranas and archaeological work done earlier, information was given about the discovery made in the marine area of Dwarka,’ he said.
