Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A major stretch of Byrama river in Damoh district is infested with the crocodiles. To save villagers from becoming the victim of crocodile attack, forest department has installed warning boards at different places.
According to Damoh District Forest Officer Ishwar Gerande, Byrama, a tributary of Ken river, flows between Sagar and Damoh district. Most stretch of river is in Damoh district that passes through several villages. The river has several crocodiles. To save people from crocodile attack, warning boards have been installed at identified locations near the river.
Sources said that many incidents of crocodile attack have taken place, instilling fear among villagers. Eleven months ago, a youth had entered river to take bath. A crocodile attacked him. It bit off flesh of his lower limb.
In March this year, a crocodile entered a field in Pati Liladar village, creating panic among villagers. In June last year, a crocodile had attacked a minor boy when he went to river to wash clothes. He received deep wounds but was saved by the villagers.
In July last year, an eight-year-old boy Krishna Singh went to river with father to take bath. When he was taking bath, a crocodile attacked him and took him into deep water. His body was found the next day.
