Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A letter written by the engineer-in-chief (E-in-C) of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) on June 21 kicked up a row.
In the letter, E-in-C directed the chief engineer of Jal Nigam and the project director to conduct an inquiry against the minister of the department, Sampatiya Uikey.
E-in-C ordered an inquiry against the minister and into the property of the executive engineer of Mandla for allegedly collecting money for Uikey.
A former legislator, Kishore Samrite, wrote to the Prime Minister about corruption in Jal Jeevan Mission. In the letter, Samrite alleged that the minister had taken a commission worth Rs 1,000 crore.
He also complained against former E-in-C BK Songariya and CE Bhaskar. The central government sent the letter to the PHE department for an inquiry. The department conducted the inquiry.
In the probe, it came to light that the complaints against the minister were baseless. According to a press release issued by PHE, the complaint against the minister is baseless and lacks evidence.
Samrite did not attach any evidence to the complaint. The inquiry committee said the complaint was a figment of imagination and holds no ground.
It was also said that before making payment to any agency, a scrutiny is done. So, it was not possible to make any payment. There is also a third party at the place of work to probe such cases, so whatever allegations were made in the letter lacked evidence.
