Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh): Now, college students will run energy literacy programmes to raise public awareness on environmental impacts of climate change being reflected on a global scale, said officials of Higher Education Department.

“In the present scenario, the environmental impact of climate change is being reflected on a global scale. Everyone is aware of this situation and is directly and indirectly a participant,” said OSD, Higher Education Department, Alok Nigam.

It is therefore necessary that every person should have basic information regarding the expenditure, dissipation of energy, added Nigam.

Taking a step towards tackling the effects of global warming and climate change, the state government has launched Energy Literacy Campaign Urja Saksharta Abhiyan (UShA).

“Through this campaign, the students of schools and colleges and the general public will be given information about energy, solar energy and saving energy,” said Nigam.

Students will work on a mission mode and disseminate information about the direct and indirect benefits of energy use. A provision has been made for phased certification through graded learning.

Officials of higher education department said that objectives of this energy literacy campaign was to make all the citizens of the state energy-literate under a time bound action plan.

Students participating in the UShA programme will help citizens develop an understanding of the expenditure and dissipation of energy. It also aims to create an understanding of the traditional and alternative sources of energy and their impact on the environment.
