Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Shahpura police detained notorious criminal Suraj alias Kala Vishwakarma on Sunday under National Security Act (NSA) following repeated incidents of violence and public disorder.
According to police, Suraj, resident of Drishti Colony, Kolar, has been a long-time menace with 36 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations including Habibganj.
The latest action stems from an FIR lodged on April 28, 2025, at the Shahpura police station. Devendra Verma, a resident of Shyam Nagar, Habibganj, accused Suraj and his associates of damaging vehicles, physically assaulting locals, and using abusive language. The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Despite prior preventive measures, Suraj continued his criminal activities unabated. In response, Habibganj police prepared a case under the NSA, which was reviewed and forwarded by senior officials including the deputy commissioner and additional commissioner of police (law and order).
Acting on the report, Bhopal District Magistrate issued an order on June 26, invoking NSA against Suraj, 30. He was arrested by Habibganj police and lodged in Central Jail.
