Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Cyber crime cell will use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to trace the person sending bomb hoax emails to educational and medical institutions in the city. Although seven such emails were sent in the past one year, the sender remains untraced.
Cyber cell experts will deploy AI-based tools to identify the suspect, who is believed to be using virtual private networks (VPNs) to conceal his real IP address. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Singh Chauhan said the suspect appears to be using VPN services to hide his identity. However, cyber police will use AI tools to track him through a three-point strategy.
The first step involves data pattern analysis, wherein AI systems will analyse internet traffic and detect suspicious behaviour patterns. If the sender repeatedly uses different VPN servers, AI can identify recurring usage patterns and anomalies that may help track him.
The second involves analysing metadata. While VPNs can hide the original IP address, metadata such as timestamps, device fingerprints, login logs and possible location indicators can provide crucial leads. Experts said such digital footprints may help trace the source of the emails.
The third step is multi-layer tracking. In cases where the suspect uses both VPNs and proxy servers, AI can correlate data collected from multiple platforms to establish connections. This multi-layered tracking may also involve international cooperation to identify the real user behind the threats.
Focus on crowded areas
According to police officials, the emails are strategically targeting institutions located in densely populated areas of the city to create maximum panic. Joint teams have been formed to probe the case from multiple angles, including technical, intelligence and field investigations.
