Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Lokayukta police are still awaiting responses from the Income Tax (I-T) department and Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the investigation details in the Saurabh Sharma case, officials said on Sunday.
It has been over a month since the police sent letters to both agencies, requesting information related to the raids and seizures made during their investigations. Saurabh Sharma, a former road transport constable, was arrested by Lokayukta police on December 19, 2024.
Subsequently, both the I-T and ED joined the investigation. The Lokayukta police have sought to obtain details of the items seized during the raids, including large sums of cash, gold, and property papers, to assist in property valuation for their investigation.
According to Jaideep Prasad, DG of Lokayukta, two letters were sent to the I-T and ED requesting information about the seizures made at the accusedís premises. As of now, three individualsóSaurabh Sharma, Chetan Singh Gaur, and Sharad Jaiswalóremain in jail, with the ED continuing to question them.
During their respective raids, the I-T department seized 52 kilogrammes of gold bars and Rs 11 crore in cash from a car belonging to Chetan Singh. The ED uncovered cash, bank deposits, and valuables worth Rs 42 crore, along with property papers, which are under valuation.
Moreover, Lokayukta police seized diaries, laptops, pen drives, and property papers during their raids.
I-T to quizafter ED probe ends Officials from the Income Tax (I-T) department are expected to begin their questioning of the accused once the ED concludes its investigation, which is anticipated to wrap up in the coming week.
The IT department plans to question Chetan Singh Gaur and Saurabh Sharma regarding the large seizures made during the raids.
