Bhopal: Gusty winds, heavy rain bring down century-old banyan tree
Rainwater gushes into police station, low lying areas in walled city
Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh): Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds battered the state capital on Sunday, uprooting over a 100-year-old banyan tree at Central verge near Kamla Park, disrupting traffic movement. No human casualty was reported, however, some of the vehicles came under the huge fallen tree. Besides, heavy rain uprooted trees at Pipal Chouraha, Karond and Minakshi Hotel (ward no-45). Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) teams were pressed into service to clear the roads.
A spell of heavy rain lashed the state capital on Sunday leading to water logging in many pockets of the city. On the day, the city recorded 2.5cm of rainfall till Sunday evening. Rain water gushed into the police station on Chhola Road. The residents living in low lying areas in the Walled City like Jumerati, Sabzi Mandi, Saifia College Road, Sindhi Colony, Bhopal Talkies had a tough time due to water logging.
Rain water gushed into houses and people had to struggle to shift their belongings to safer places. Commuters were seen wading through knee-deep water on roads.
Though it was the weekend, heavy rains kept people indoors. With fewer vehicles on the road, it became easy for the police to regulate and divert the traffic near Kamla Park. The civic body teams ensured regular movement of traffic by evening.
