Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal is all set to celebrate its remarkable feat of making it to the top three cities in the Swachh Survekshan-2024, a significant rise from last year’s fifth position.
To mark this national-level achievement, festive events will take place across all 21 municipal zones.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed LED screens at nine key locations—including DIG Bungalow, Minal, Peer Gate and Chhola area—for live telecast of the award ceremony, which will be held in Delhi on July 17.
President Droupadi Murmu will present the award to BMC at Vigyan Bhawan. A 10-member delegation from BMC is already in Delhi to receive the honour.
The official team includes Corporation Commissioner Harendra Narayan, Mayor Malti Rai, Additional Commissioner Devendra Singh Chauhan, Mayor-in-Council (MIC) RK Singh, Deputy Commissioner ChanchaleshGirhare, Assistant Commissioner Kirti Chauhan, Chief Engineer (Water Works) Udit Garg, Sub-Engineer Vijay Goyal and Saurabh Sood from the Swachh Bharat Mission. Moreover, a 12-member state-level team from SBM's partner NGO has also reached Delhi.
Back in Bhopal, Assistant Health Officers have been directed to organise drum processions in each municipal zone to spread the festive spirit and to welcome returning delegation at the airport.
Field staff feel left out
While the city takes pride in its national recognition, there is clear disappointment among sanitation workers and health department staff, who have been excluded from the award delegation. Unlike last year, when two female sanitation workers were part of the award team, no ground-level employee has been included this time.
