Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 13-year-old boy drowned while bathing in a pond on Sunday in Lalaria village in Berasia. His body was recovered by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team on Monday morning, Berasia police said here.
According to police station in-charge Virendra Kumar Sen, the boy Tohid Khan had gone out to enjoy the rains along with neighborhood children. They all headed to a nearby pond, where Tohid accidentally slipped into deep water while bathing and drowned.
Due to the ongoing rain, his disappearance initially went unnoticed. His friends returned home without informing anyone. Concerned about his absence, Tohid’s family began looking for him and later found his slippers on the pond's bank. The police were immediately informed.
A joint search operation was launched by the police and SDRF on Sunday night, but the child could not be located. Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and tehsildar also reached the spot to monitor the search operation.
The operation resumed at daybreak on Monday, and the child's body was recovered in the afternoon. It has been sent for postmortem.
Police will record the statement of the minor’s friends and other eyewitnesses to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
