Funeral Ceremony Of Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV Scheduled On Feb 8 In Portugal's Lisbon; Spiritual Leader To Be Buried In Egypt On Feb 9

Mumbai: The funeral ceremony for Prince Karim al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, will take place at the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon, Portugal, at 11:00am on Saturday, February ,8, 2025, the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat has announced.

Thereafter, Aga Khan IV will be laid to rest at a private burial ceremony in Aswan, Egypt on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

The event is open to invited guests only. Guests will include members of His Highness's family, leaders of the global Ismaili community and the Aga Khan Development Network, officials of the Portuguese government and state authorities, and international dignitaries.

While photos and video will not be permitted inside the Ismaili Centre, the ceremony will be live streamed on The Ismaili TV.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, a special Homage ceremony will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V will grant an audience to senior leaders of the Ismaili community, who will pledge their allegiance, on behalf of the global Ismaili community, to the 50th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims. This will be a private religious ceremony.

Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the heriditary head of the Shia Ismaili community, who died in Lisbon, Portugal on Tuesday, aged 88. He has been succeeded by his son, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V.
