A violent stabbing incident near the iconic Dam Square in central Amsterdam left at least five people wounded on Thursday.
According to Amsterdam police, the attack occurred on Sint Nicolaasstraat, close to the popular tourist destination. An unidentified male suspect wielding a knife indiscriminately attacked pedestrians, causing multiple injuries and creating panic in the busy area.
Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene. Witnesses reported seeing at least one victim being placed on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital via ambulance. The exact condition of the injured individuals remains unclear at this time.
Police immediately secured the area, blocking off the location where the attack took place.
"We are present at the Dam and have blocked the area," a police official told Sky News. The police also took to social media platform X to state that while the attacker has been detained, the motive remains under investigation.
