A Reddit post titled “This is why Kannadigas have a problem with outsiders in Bengaluru” has triggered a fresh round of online debate.
Posted under the subreddit r/Bengaluru, the post criticizes non-Kannadigas for allegedly disrespecting local traditions, particularly the Karaga festival — a centuries-old religious celebration observed in the city.
The author took issue with complaints from non-local residents who reportedly said the Karaga “disturbs their sleep” and should “evolve with the times.”

“Karaga has been celebrated in Bengaluru for over 800 years—way before tech parks, startups, and your home city showed up on the Indian map... It’s a deep-rooted cultural and religious tradition for the people who actually belong to this city", he wrote.
The post further accused migrants of mocking festivals, refusing to learn the local language, and treating Bengaluru merely as a city of convenience without regard for its cultural fabric. “You’re not above our culture. You’re just a guest here. Learn some damn respect,” it concluded.
