Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of misquoting the Army Chief in Lok Sabha and making "false allegations" about the state government's handling of the border row with China.

During the Budget Session in Lok Sabha on February 3, Gandhi argued that although the PM has denied the presence of Chinese forces in our territory "for some reason, our Army keeps talking to Chinese about their entry into our territory and Chief of Army Staff says that the Chinese are inside our territory”.

In response to Gandhi's claims, Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday and wrote, "The Army Chief’s remarks referred only to the disturbance of traditional patrolling by both sides. He also mentioned that these practices have been restored to their traditional pattern as part of the recent disengagement. Government has shared these details in Parliament.”

"The words attributed to the Army Chief by Shri Rahul Gandhi were never spoken by him at any time. It is a matter of deep regret that Shri Rahul Gandhi should indulge in irresponsible politics on matters of national interest," he added.

Singh further said, "If at all there is Indian Territory into which China has come, this is 38,000 sq. km in Aksai Chin as a result of the 1962 conflict and 5,180 sq. km. illegally ceded by Pakistan to China in 1963. Shri Rahul Gandhi may consider introspecting about this phase of our history."

Gandhi had also criticised the Modi government's 'Make In India' initiative, claiming that China has a 10-year lead on India in the artificial intelligence space.

He further added that China has been extensively working on robots, motors, batteries, and optics while it owns almost all electronics in the world today.
